NHTSA campaign 17V480, reported July 28, 2017, 17,609 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2012 Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans, sold under the Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz names, have a passenger-side front air bag inflator that can degrade over time from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. If the passenger front air bag deploys in a crash, the inflator may rupture, and metal fragments can strike occupants, causing serious injury or death.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag. Owners will be notified by the manufacturer, Daimler Vans USA, LLC, but you can also contact its customer service line at 1-877-762-8267. This recall began January 12, 2018, and supersedes recall 17V-025.
