Newmar Dutch Star Recall 17V195: Front Ball Joints Can Loosen, Causing Steering Loss

NHTSA campaign 17V195, reported March 22, 2017, 595 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain motorhomes built on a Spartan Motors chassis may have front suspension ball joints on the independent front suspension (IFS) modules that can loosen and separate. The problem can cause a partial loss of steering.

A separated ball joint can cause a loss of steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take the recall seriously and have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.

The repair is free at a Spartan service center. Technicians will remove, clean, apply thread locker, reinstall and torque the ball joints as necessary. Owners can call Spartan at 1-800-543-4277 to find a qualified service center, or contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791 (Newmar recall number 17004).
