Mercedes-Benz E 300 Recall 17V076: Passenger Front Airbag May Be Wrongly Turned Off

NHTSA campaign 17V076, reported February 8, 2017, 12,456 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The front passenger occupant detection control unit may have been installed incorrectly. As a result, the system can misread an adult sitting in the front passenger seat as a child seat, which may deactivate the front passenger airbag.

If the passenger airbag does not deploy as intended in a crash, the risk of injury to the front passenger increases. Owners should take this seriously and not assume the airbag warning light is a reliable sign that the system is working correctly.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify owners. Dealers will inspect the routing of the seat occupancy detection control unit's pressure hose and replace the hose and seat occupancy detection mat if needed, at no cost to you. You can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
