Ford F-150 Recall 17V053: Gear Indicator May Not Light, Risking Unintended Movement

NHTSA campaign 17V053, reported January 24, 2017, 6,792 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2017 trucks with the eight-inch productivity screen, the instrument cluster may lose power after the initial start-up in cold temperatures. When this happens, several gauges, including the transmission gear position indicator, may not illuminate, and the vehicle may not meet federal safety standard FMVSS 102 covering transmission shift position sequence.

If the gear position indicator does not light, the driver may be unable to tell which transmission position the vehicle is in. That raises the risk of a crash or injury from unintended vehicle movement.

Owners will be notified by Ford. The repair is free: an authorized dealer will reprogram the instrument cluster at no charge. You can check your VIN for open recalls and contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall 17C01.
