Forest River Avenger Recall 17V039: Wrong tire pressure label may cause tire blowout

NHTSA campaign 17V039, reported January 18, 2017, 165 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The tire information label (Federal Placard) on certain 2017 Forest River Avenger recreational vehicles lists the wrong tire size, rim size and inflation pressure. The placard shows ST225/75R15E tires at 80 PSI on a 15x6.0JJ rim, but these vehicles should show ST225/75R15D tires at 65 PSI on a 15x5.0JJ rim. Because the label is incorrect, the tires could be overinflated, which can lead to a tire blowout and a higher risk of a crash. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 for tire selection and rims.

If you own an affected vehicle, contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-862-1025 and reference recall number 48-01162017-0310. Forest River will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will install a corrected Federal Placard at no cost to you.

You can also check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site. Until the label is corrected, make sure your tires are inflated to the pressure shown on the placard for your tire size and check them regularly.
