Mercedes-Benz E 400 Recall 16V831: Underbody Panel May Melt From Exhaust Heat, Risking Fire

NHTSA campaign 16V831, reported November 17, 2016, 799 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2017 Mercedes-Benz E400 and E550 Coupe and Convertible models built between June 7 and September 8, 2016, there may not be enough clearance between the left catalytic converter and the composite underbody panel. Heat from the converter can cause that panel to melt.

If the panel melts, the risk of a fire increases. Owners of affected vehicles should take this recall seriously.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the underbody panel and replace it if necessary, at no charge to you. Contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372 for more information, and check your vehicle's VIN for any open recalls.
