Altec Aerial Device Recall 16V710: Boom Tip Cover May Let Metal Touch Live Wires

NHTSA campaign 16V710, reported October 5, 2016, 219 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2014-2015 Altec aerial devices (A65, A70, A75, A72-T, A77-T and A82-T models, built between April 15, 2014 and October 15, 2015) have a fiberglass cover over the boom tip that may have an opening that is the wrong size. This can leave the exposed metal tip of the boom able to contact an energized overhead conductor.

If the metal tip touches a live electrical wire, the boom operator faces a higher risk of injury. Owners should contact Altec customer service at 1-205-991-7733 or check with their authorized dealer. Altec will notify owners, and the boom tip cover with the improperly sized opening will be replaced free of charge by dealers. The recall began on December 1, 2016.

If you own or operate one of these aerial devices, do not wait for a notice to arrive. Call Altec to confirm whether your device is included, and check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
