Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall 16V686: Loose Rear Tow Bracket Could Detach and Cause a Crash

NHTSA campaign 16V686, reported September 23, 2016, 100 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles built in a narrow window in August 2016 may have a rear tow hook or tow eye bracket that is loose. If the bracket is not secure, it can come off while the vehicle is being driven and become a road hazard. It can also detach during a vehicle recovery, which may cause the towed vehicle to lose control. Either situation increases the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified by mail. Dealers will confirm that both tow hook bracket bolts are properly tightened, and the inspection and repair are free of charge. The recall began on October 31, 2016. You can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 with questions, and you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to see whether this one applies to you.
