Volkswagen Tiguan Recall 16V464: Rear Child Locks May Disengage, Letting Kids Open Doors

NHTSA campaign 16V464, reported June 24, 2016, 5,658 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Volkswagen CC, e-Golf, Golf R, and Tiguan vehicles built within specific production windows may have rear child door locks that disengage from vibration, such as from opening and closing a door. This can allow a child riding in the back seat to open a rear door while the vehicle is in motion or otherwise unexpectedly.

If an unrestrained child opens a door, they may fall from the vehicle, which increases the risk of serious injury. Volkswagen will notify affected owners, and dealers will inspect the rear child locks and replace them if necessary, at no cost to you.

If you own one of these vehicles, contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recall number 58C9. You can also check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included, and schedule a free repair at an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
