Scion FR-S Recall 16V420: Incorrect load label may lead to vehicle overloading and crash risk

NHTSA campaign 16V420, reported June 9, 2016, 4,253 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The Load Carrying Capacity Modification Label on certain vehicles may not reflect the correct added weight of installed accessories. As a result, these vehicles do not fully comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110, which covers tire selection and rims for passenger cars.

Because the label may understate the weight the vehicle is rated to carry, an owner could load the vehicle beyond its safe limit. An overloaded vehicle has a greater risk of a crash.

Southeast Toyota Distributors will notify owners and provide a corrected label to place over the inaccurate one, free of charge. Owners can contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls, and have the repair done at an authorized dealer at no cost.
