Toyota RAV4 Recall 16V236: Incorrect Load Label May Lead to Vehicle Overloading

NHTSA campaign 16V236, reported April 22, 2016, 94 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Toyota and Scion vehicles built between January 28, 2016 and March 14, 2016 may have a Load Carrying Capacity Modification Label that does not reflect the correct added weight of installed accessories. Because of this, the vehicle may fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 for tire selection and rims on passenger cars.

If the label understates the weight of accessories, the vehicle could be loaded beyond its safe capacity. An overloaded vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified and sent a corrected label to place over the inaccurate one. The label and installation are free of charge. You can contact Southeast Toyota Distributors customer service at 1-866-405-4226 and reference recall SET16A. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
