GMC Sierra 1500 Recall 16V209: Seat Belt Tensioner Cable May Separate in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 16V209, reported April 12, 2016, 895,232 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The seat belt tensioner cable in certain trucks may be positioned where the driver slides over it while getting in. Repeated movement can cause the cable to fatigue and separate.

If the tensioner cable separates, the seat belt may not properly restrain the driver in a crash, which increases the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles so the tensioner is not damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced free of charge. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
