Maserati Ghibli Recall 16V122: Floor Mat Can Trap Accelerator, Causing Sudden Speed

NHTSA campaign 16V122, reported March 1, 2016, 28,235 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The driver-side floor mat anchor can break, allowing the mat to shift and become trapped between the accelerator pedal and the carpet. If that happens, the vehicle may accelerate to very high speeds, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death. These vehicles have a brake override system: if the pedal is trapped, pressing the brake pedal will slow and stop the vehicle, and the driver can then turn it off.

If you own one of these vehicles, contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737 and reference recall 301. Maserati will notify affected owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the driver-side floor mat and, if needed, the accelerator pedal cover at no cost. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.
