Volvo VNL Recall 16V095: Steering Can Be Lost From Worn Ball Joints

NHTSA campaign 16V095, reported February 19, 2016, 2,053 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Volvo trucks have non-greasable drag links whose seals can be compromised, allowing the ball joints to corrode. This can lead to accelerated wear and eventual failure of the ball joint, which may cause the socket to separate.

If the ball joint fails and the socket separates, the driver can lose steering completely, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should check whether their truck is covered by this recall and contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 if it is. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.

Dealers will replace the drag links free of charge. Volvo will notify affected owners, and this recall expands an earlier recall, 15V-651.
