What this recall means for you
This recall covers certain vehicles with a 6.8L engine and an optional trailer brake controller, built between November 3, 2014, and December 10, 2015. The trailer braking system may fail, which can increase the distance the vehicle needs to stop.
If the vehicle unexpectedly needs a longer braking distance, the increased stopping distance raises the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk, especially when towing or driving in situations where a longer stop could be dangerous.
The repair is free. Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module. Ford will notify owners, and you can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 16S01). This recall supersedes 15V-710, so any vehicle previously repaired under that recall will need to be repaired again. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
