Gillig LOW Floor Recall 15V888: Water Can Corrode Front Brake Chambers, Reducing Stopping Power

NHTSA campaign 15V888, reported December 30, 2015, 16 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain buses built between November 20, 2014 and June 2, 2015 may have front brake chambers installed with the drain hole facing the wrong way. This can let water collect inside the chamber, where it can cause corrosion, deterioration, or freezing, and reduce braking ability.

Reduced braking increases the risk of a crash. Owners should watch for any change in braking performance and contact the manufacturer promptly if they have concerns.

Gillig will notify owners and will replace the brake chambers free of charge. Owners can contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500. The recall began March 1, 2016. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
