Mercedes-Benz E 350 Recall 15V792: Fuel Line Fitting Can Leak or Disconnect, Causing Fire or Stall Risk

NHTSA campaign 15V792, reported November 24, 2015, 809 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2014 E350 sedans built between June 4 and July 9, 2014 have a fuel feed line with a single flare fitting instead of the correct double flare fitting. Over time, the connection between the fuel hose and the fuel feed line can develop a leak or fully disconnect.

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can cause a fire. If the fuel feed line disconnects, the engine can stall, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should not ignore signs of a fuel smell or visible fuel leak near the engine.

Mercedes-Benz will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will install the correct fuel line at no cost. You can call Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372 for help, and check your VIN for any open recalls.

Problem
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2014 E350 and E350 4Matic sedans manufactured June 4, 2014, to July 9, 2014. The affected vehicles were built with a fuel feed line that has a single flare fitting instead of a double flare fitting.
Risk
If the fuel feed line has the incorrect flare fitting, the connection between the fuel hose and the fuel feed line might develop a leak or may completely disconnect. Leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire and if the fuel feed line disconnects, the vehicle would stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will install the correct fuel line, free of charge. This recall began on January 11, 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
