Tesla Model S Recall 15V780: Front Seat Belt May Not Restrain Occupant in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V780, reported November 23, 2015, 59,415 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Tesla Model S vehicles from model years 2012 through 2015 may have a driver or front passenger seat belt that is improperly connected to the outboard lap pretensioner. The pretensioner is the part that tightens the belt during a crash.

If the seat belt is not correctly attached, it may not properly restrain the occupant in a crash, which increases the risk of injury. Owners should not assume their belt is working correctly just because it latches.

Tesla will notify owners, and authorized service centers will inspect the driver and front passenger seat belts and correct the connection if needed, at no cost to you. Contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall SB-15-20-002, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
