Ford Edge Recall 15V712: Fuel Tank Seam May Leak, Creating Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 15V712, reported October 27, 2015, 110,636 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles built between September 2008 and July 2010, and sold in or currently registered in a list of Northeastern, Midwestern and Mid-Atlantic states plus the District of Columbia, may have a fuel tank with a seam weld that corrodes. Salt water exposure, such as from road salt, can cause the fuel tank seam weld under the tank mounting reinforcement brackets to leak fuel.

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. Owners should take this recall seriously and not delay the repair.

Ford will notify owners, and the repair is free at an authorized dealer. The dealer will inspect the vehicle and either clean and treat the fuel tank with a corrosion preventative or replace the tank. To check whether your vehicle has open recalls, enter your VIN on the NHTSA or Ford website, or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 15S31.
