Kenworth T680 Recall 15V639: Truck May Roll Backward After Shifting Out of Reverse

NHTSA campaign 15V639, reported October 9, 2015, 27 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Kenworth and Peterbilt heavy trucks with Eaton Fuller FR 10-speed manual transmissions may keep the reverse gear engaged after the shift lever is moved from reverse to neutral. When the lever is then moved from reverse into a forward gear, both reverse and forward gears can be engaged at once, and the transmission may mechanically lock.

Because the truck can move backward even after it has been shifted out of reverse, there is an increased risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Paccar will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect and repair the transmission if necessary at no cost. Kenworth owners can contact customer service at 1-425-828-5000, and Peterbilt owners at 1-940-591-4000. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls, and contact a dealer promptly if your truck is affected.
