Mack Pinnacle (Cxu) Recall 15V521: Brake Chambers May Be Mounted Wrong, Risking Loss of Braking

NHTSA campaign 15V521, reported August 17, 2015, 79 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2013-2015 Mack Pinnacle trucks built between October 3, 2012, and February 18, 2014, and equipped with Meritor air disc brakes, the brake chambers may have been incorrectly mounted. This can allow internal contamination of the air brake calipers.

Contamination of the calipers may cause a loss of braking on one wheel. That lengthens the distance needed to stop the truck and increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the disc brake caliper and brake chamber to check whether the washers are in the correct position. If they are, no further action is needed. If not, the caliper and brake chamber will be replaced and two washers will be added per brake assembly, free of charge at an authorized dealer. Owners can contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
