Pierce Dash CF Recall 15V516: Driveshaft may bend or twist and disconnect, causing loss of drive

NHTSA campaign 15V516, reported August 13, 2015, 191 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The driveshaft on these emergency vehicles may bend or twist, which could cause it to disconnect from the vehicle. If that happens, the vehicle can lose drive power and stop on the roadway, unable to respond to an emergency. A detached driveshaft can also fall onto the road and become a hazard to other drivers, which increases the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain 2014 and 2015 Pierce emergency vehicles built between November 3, 2014, and July 31, 2015. Owners were notified by Pierce, and the recall began on September 15, 2015.

Authorized dealers will install a stronger driveshaft at no cost to you. To ask about the recall, contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 and reference recall number 74B265. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
