Ford Explorer Recall 15V464: Parking Brake May Not Fully Engage, Risking Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 15V464, reported July 24, 2015, 7,165 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2016 Ford Explorer, Ford Flex, Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles built during specific production windows in May 2015 may have a parking brake that does not fully engage when applied. This means the vehicle does not meet the federal safety standard for light vehicle brake systems.

If the parking brake does not fully hold and the transmission is left in a gear other than Park while parked on a slope, the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall 15C07, or take their vehicle to an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer. Dealers will test the parking brake system and, if necessary, replace the parking brake control assembly free of charge. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
