RAM 1500 Recall 15V460: Side Airbags May Deploy Unexpectedly, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 15V460, reported July 22, 2015, 667,441 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks may have side impact sensors that are overly sensitive. As a result, the side curtain airbags and seat airbags can deploy unexpectedly, and the seat belt pretensioners can activate without a crash.

Unexpected airbag deployment is dangerous because it can cause a crash or injury, especially if you are driving when it happens. Seat belt pretensioners firing without warning can also affect how the belt holds you in place.

The remedy is free. Dealers will update the Occupant Restraint Control module calibration at no cost to you. Chrysler will notify affected owners, but you can also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall R23) and check your VIN for open recalls.
