Gillig LOW Floor Recall 15V219: Front Brake Hoses May Rub and Cause Air Leak

NHTSA campaign 15V219, reported April 14, 2015, 623 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2013-2015 Gillig Low Floor transit buses, built between July 8, 2013 and February 7, 2015 and equipped with air disc brakes, may have front left and right brake air hoses that touch and rub against the air bag suspension towers. Over time, this rubbing can wear a hole in the suspension tower, causing a brake air leak.

An air leak can reduce brake air pressure, which lengthens the distance needed to stop the bus and raises the risk of a crash.

Gillig is recalling these buses. Dealers will replace the front brake hoses with shorter ones that will not contact the suspension tower, at no cost to owners. Owners can contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500, and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
