Kenworth T680 Recall 15V196: Rear axle may starve wheel bearings of lubricant, risking fire or crash

NHTSA campaign 15V196, reported April 3, 2015, 24 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2016 Kenworth T680 and T880 trucks built between November 17, 2014 and January 5, 2015 have Meritor MT-40-14X rear drive axles that may not circulate enough lubricant to the wheel end hub assembly. Without adequate lubrication, the wheel bearings can fail early.

Premature bearing failure raises the risk of a wheel-end fire or a crash. Owners should not wait to have this addressed.

Kenworth will notify owners. Authorized dealers will replace the defective rear drive axle and inspect the wheel ends, replacing any damaged parts, at no cost. Owners can contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
