Peterbilt 388 Recall 15V108: Loose Steering Tie Rod Bolts Can Cause Loss of Control

NHTSA campaign 15V108, reported February 24, 2015, 5,141 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Front axle tie rod end clamp bolts on certain Peterbilt trucks may not be properly torqued. Bolts that are not tightened enough are more susceptible to corrosion, and loose bolts can separate, which could cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

If you own an affected truck, the remedy is free. Dealers will replace the front axle tie rod assembly on any vehicle where the factory-installed assembly has not previously been replaced. Owners were mailed interim notices on May 11, 2015, and the recall began on April 4, 2016. For questions, contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220 and reference recall number 215-C.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your truck is affected.
