Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Recall 15V082: Door May Be Hard to Open After a Severe Front Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V082, reported February 10, 2015, 5,586 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2015 Sprinter vehicles built between July and October 2014 may have an abutting wedge, a part attached to the door jamb to make the doors easier to open after a severe frontal impact, installed incorrectly.

If a vehicle with this problem is involved in a severe frontal accident, more force may be needed to open the doors, which could increase the risk of injury to occupants trying to get out. Owners should check whether their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup site, and contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-877-762-8267 for more information.

The remedy is free: authorized dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge and correct it if necessary, at no cost to the owner.
