The component that failed is the starter motor assembly. It is currently installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. This failure creates a severe safety hazard by disabling critical Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). When the vehicle's Auto Idle Stop feature engages at a stop and then attempts to restart the engine, the internally defective starter draws excessive current. It becomes a very dangerous situation when trying to join traffic while exiting a parking lot or when stopped at a traffic light and the car does nor restart. It has to be placed in park, turned off, open a door, close it and then press the ignition button to start again.
