Subaru Forester Recall 26V685: Front ball joint may separate, risking loss of control

NHTSA campaign 26V685, reported October 19, 2026, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2026 Subaru Crosstrek and Forester vehicles may have a castle nut on the left-front lower control arm ball joint that was not properly fastened. Over time, this can allow the ball joint to separate from the lower control arm.

If the ball joint separates, the vehicle can lose control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners are advised not to drive the vehicle until the repair has been completed.

Take your vehicle to an authorized Subaru dealer. The dealer will inspect the left-front lower control arm ball joint and replace the assembly if necessary, at no cost to you. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 16, 2026. You can also contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 (recall number WRI26), or check your VIN for open recalls.
