Blue Bird Vision School Bus Recall 26V556: Wheelchair Lift May Not Stop, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 26V556, reported August 31, 2026, 82 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain school buses with Ricon K-Series wheelchair platform lifts may have an electrical contactor that can fail. When this happens, the lift controls cannot stop the lift from moving.

A wheelchair lift that keeps moving while someone is on it can cause injury to the rider or others nearby. Owners should be aware of this risk, especially where the lift is used regularly to carry passengers.

The repair is free. Authorized dealers will correct the wiring by installing two diodes. Owner notification letters were mailed October 28, 2026. You can contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242 and reference recall number R26AH, and you can check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
