Mitsubishi Outlander Recall 26V549: Rearview Camera May Not Display in Reverse, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 26V549, reported August 25, 2026, 67,146 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Due to improper software programming, the Alliance In-Vehicle Infotainment (A-IVI) system may fail to display the rearview camera image when the vehicle is put in reverse. This means the driver may have a reduced view behind the vehicle, and these vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, "Rear Visibility."

A rearview image that does not display properly reduces your view of what is behind the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash while backing up. Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls at NHTSA.gov, and note that VINs involved in this recall will become searchable there on September 9, 2026.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will update the A-IVI software at no charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 24, 2026. You may also contact Mitsubishi Motors North America customer service at 1-888-648-7820 and reference recall number SR-26-002.
