Horton Type I Recall 26V533: Touchscreen May Fail, Blocking Emergency Lights and Equipment

NHTSA campaign 26V533, reported August 14, 2026, 545 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The touchscreen display in these ambulances may stop responding to touch commands or fail to power on. When that happens, the driver may be unable to switch on exterior emergency lights, fire suppression, and other emergency equipment. Losing exterior lights can make the vehicle harder for other drivers to see, raising the risk of a crash, and inoperative equipment can delay emergency response and increase the risk of injury.

The remedy is free. Weldon Division of Akron will update the firmware and repair the power line at no cost to the owner. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 5, 2026. Owners can contact Weldon customer service at 1-800-228-1161 or Halcore customer service at 1-800-447-0343, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
