BMW S 1000 RR Recall 26V478: Ignition Lock Can Fail, Causing Engine Stall or Lost ABS

NHTSA campaign 26V478, reported July 23, 2026, 16,736 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A vibration-related fault can cause an internal component of the ignition lock to fail on these BMW S 1000 RR motorcycles. When that happens, the instrument display, rear lighting, and systems such as ABS can fail, or the engine can stall while you are riding.

An engine stall or the loss of electrical systems like the instrument display or ABS increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be alert to warning signs and stay in touch with BMW about the repair.

The remedy is still being developed, and owner notification letters were mailed September 18, 2026. Additional letters will follow once the remedy is available. You can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA.gov, where affected VINs become searchable starting September 14, 2026.
