ATC RM500 Recall 26V471: Winch May Move Unexpectedly, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 26V471, reported July 22, 2026, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2026 ATC RM500 and RM700 trailers may have a wireless handheld winch remote that is incompatible with some older (legacy) winches. When this happens, the winch can operate unintentionally, meaning it may move without the operator meaning to make it move.

An unexpected winch movement increases the risk of injury to anyone nearby. If your trailer has this winch setup, avoid using the wireless remote with the winch until the issue is addressed, and keep people and hands clear of the winch and its cable while it is in use.

Aluminum Trailer Company will replace the wireless remote or provide a refund, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 7, 2026. For help, call ATC customer service at 1-877-441-2440. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
