- Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2027 Champion dry van trailers The trailers may have been produced without the installation of the rear impact guard extension channels. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
- Risk
- A rear impact guard that is not properly installed can increase the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy
- Dealers will install the rear impact guard extension channels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 3, 2026. Owners may contact Great Dane's customer service at 1-877-369-3493.
What this recall means for you
Certain 2027 Great Dane Champion dry van trailers may have been built without the rear impact guard extension channels. The rear impact guard helps prevent smaller vehicles from sliding underneath the trailer in a rear-end collision. Without the channels, the guard may not be properly installed, which can increase the risk of injury in a crash and means the trailer does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
If you own an affected trailer, you will receive or have received a notification letter mailed September 3, 2026. Dealers will install the rear impact guard extension channels free of charge.
