What this recall means for you
The VIN label on certain 2026 Chief Vintage motorcycles lists the wrong rear rim width. This means the motorcycle does not meet federal wheel and rim safety requirements. If a tire is mounted based on the incorrect label, it may not be seated properly, which could lead to a loss of control and a higher risk of crashing.
If you own an affected motorcycle, the manufacturer, Indian Motorcycle Company, will mail you new information labels with instructions at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 15, 2026. You can also call Indian Motorcycle customer service at 877-204-3697 and reference recall number I-26-01.
Check whether your vehicle is included by entering your VIN on NHTSA.gov, where affected VINs became searchable on June 26, 2026. Until you have the corrected label and instructions, be careful when servicing or changing the rear tire, and confirm the correct rim size before mounting a new tire.
