Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner HDX2 Recall 26V388: School Bus Body Joints May Be Weak in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 26V388, reported June 12, 2026, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2027 school buses may have front and mid-body interior joints that were manufactured incorrectly, so the joints may not be strong enough. The buses fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 221, which sets joint strength requirements for school bus bodies.

A school bus with insufficient joint strength may not adequately protect passengers in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Owners will receive interim notification letters, expected to be mailed July 2, 2026, and additional letters once the final remedy is available, anticipated in August 2026.

Dealers will add fasteners to secure the joints, free of charge. You can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-574-0712, referencing recall number F1034, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
