- Problem
- Lode-King Industries, Ltd (Lode-King) is recalling certain 2019-2026 SDG53-3, SDF53-3, and SDF50-3 trailers. The rear impact guard may be missing welds, reducing the guard's structural strength. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 223, "Rear Impact Guards."
- Risk
- A guard with inadequate strength may not sufficiently protect a following vehicle, increasing the risk of injury during a rear end crash.
- Remedy
- Lode-King will inspect and add welds as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 14, 2026. Owners may contact Lode-King's customer service at 1-204-325-4345 or 1-866-797-0669. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning May 22, 2026.
What this recall means for you
Some trailers may have a rear impact guard that is missing welds, which reduces the guard's structural strength. As a result, these trailers do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 223 for rear impact guards.
A rear impact guard that is not strong enough may fail to adequately protect a following vehicle in a rear-end crash, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants of that vehicle.
