Mercedes-Benz Esprinter Recall 26V099: Electric Van May Not Warn Pedestrians When Reversing

NHTSA campaign 26V099, reported February 20, 2026, 117 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain electric vans have a software problem: when they are backing up, the warning sound they make for pedestrians is not loud enough. The vehicles do not meet the federal minimum sound requirement for hybrid and electric vehicles (FMVSS 141). Without an adequate sound, people nearby, including pedestrians, may not realize the van is approaching, which increases the risk of injury.

The remedy is a free software update to the pedestrian warning sounds, performed by an authorized dealer at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed March 27, 2026. You can contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 and reference recall number V3EAVASOU.

To check whether your vehicle is included, look up your VIN on NHTSA.gov, where recall VINs have been searchable since February 20, 2026. If your vehicle is involved, schedule the software update with an authorized dealer.
