Nissan Sentra Recall 26V023: Door Can Open While Driving, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 26V023, reported January 20, 2026, 26,432 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some door strikers, the metal parts that hold a door closed when it latches, may have been improperly welded. If a striker breaks, the door can open while the vehicle is moving, which increases the risk of injury or a crash. The vehicles involved do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 206 for door locks and door retention components.

Owner notification letters were mailed March 17, 2026. Dealers will replace the door strikers free of charge. To check whether your vehicle is included, look up your VIN on NHTSA.gov, where involved VINs will be searchable beginning January 28, 2026, or contact Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261 (Nissan recall numbers PD185 and PMA61).

If you own an affected vehicle, schedule a free repair with an authorized Nissan dealer as soon as possible. Until then, make sure all doors are fully closed and latched before driving.
