Forest River Bus Trans Tech School Bus Recall 26V014: School Buses May Overload Rear Axle, Risking Loss of Control

NHTSA campaign 26V014, reported January 16, 2026, 67 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2025-2026 Trans Tech school buses may have a modified seating floor plan that exceeds the rear axle's gross axle weight rating. This means the rear axle can be overloaded, which does not meet the federal safety standard for wheels and rims on vehicles other than passenger cars.

An overloaded rear axle may cause loss of vehicle control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners were notified by mail beginning February 17, 2026.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will modify the seating at no cost and provide a refund for any lost seating capacity as needed. Owners can contact Forest River Bus customer service at 1-800-348-7440, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
