Ford Focus Recall 26V012: Engine block heater may crack and cause a short circuit and fire

NHTSA campaign 26V012, reported January 15, 2026, 2,403 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The engine block heater on certain Ford Focus (2016-2018) and Ford Explorer (2019 and 2024) vehicles may crack and develop a coolant leak. When this happens, the heater can short circuit when it is plugged in, which increases the risk of a fire.

Until your vehicle is remedied, do not plug in your block heater. Ford will replace the block heater free of charge at an authorized dealer. As an alternative, Ford will replace the heater element with a threaded blanking plug and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters were mailed February 13, 2026, and final remedy letters are expected once the remedy is available, anticipated in December 2026.
