BMW 328i Recall 25V871: Side curtain airbag may leak or rupture in a crash

NHTSA campaign 25V871, reported December 17, 2025, 851 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain BMW 2 Series, 3 Series and 4 Series vehicles from 2014, plus 2015 2 Series models, have head airbags whose inflators may fail at a weld joint. The inflator can leak gas or rupture.

A ruptured inflator can send sharp metal fragments into or out of the vehicle, raising the risk of injury. A leaking inflator may only partially inflate the airbag during a crash, which also increases the risk of injury.

Dealers will replace the head airbags free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 12, 2026. You can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and you should check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
