Ford Escape Phev Recall 25V789: Battery Cell Defect Can Cause Power Loss and Fire

NHTSA campaign 25V789, reported November 14, 2025, 20,558 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A manufacturing defect in one or more high voltage battery cells can cause an internal short circuit, leading to battery failure. A failed battery can cause a loss of drive power, which raises the risk of a crash, and it can also increase the risk of a fire.

To reduce the risk, owners are advised to drive only in "Auto EV" mode. Owners will also be instructed by mail to limit the maximum charge of the battery until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will update the battery energy control module (BECM) and hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM) at no cost. Vehicles previously recalled under 24V954 will need this new remedy performed as well.

Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2026. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall 25SC4. Check your VIN on NHTSA.gov for open recalls, as VINs in this recall became searchable there on November 18, 2025.
