- Risk
- Reverse lights that fail to illuminate reduce visibility and may not alert pedestrians or other drivers that the vehicle is backing up, increasing the risk of a crash.

What this recall means for you
Certain 2026 Model Y vehicles have a wiring defect that can keep the reverse lights from illuminating when the vehicle is in reverse. The vehicles also do not meet the federal lighting standard, FMVSS 108.
When the reverse lights fail, the rear of the vehicle is harder to see at night or in poor conditions, and pedestrians and other drivers may not realize you are backing up. That increases the risk of a crash.
Tesla will replace the reverse lights and the reverse fascia harness at no cost through Tesla Service. Owner notification letters were mailed November 26, 2025. To check whether your vehicle is affected, use your VIN to look for open recalls, or contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall SB-25-17-011.
