What this recall means for you
Certain 2025 Rivian R1S and R1T vehicles running software earlier than version 2025.18.30 may not correctly identify a vehicle directly ahead while using the Hands-Free Highway Assist feature, which is part of the adaptive cruise control and forward collision avoidance system.
If the system fails to detect another vehicle, the risk of a crash increases. Drivers should stay attentive and keep their hands and focus ready to take control whenever driver-assist features are active.
Rivian is providing a free over-the-air software update that fixes the problem, so no dealer visit is required for the repair. Owner notification letters were mailed October 17, 2025. You can contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261, and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
