BMW X5 Recall 25V556: Water Leak Can Cause Headlight Loss and Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 25V556, reported August 27, 2025, 1,406 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2026 BMW X5, X5 Plug-in Hybrid, and X7 vehicles may have a windshield that is not sealed properly. Water can then enter the power distribution box or electronic control unit. Water inside these electrical components can cause electronic failures, such as a loss of headlights, which raises the risk of a crash. An electrical short circuit may also occur, increasing the risk of a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven.

If you own one of these vehicles, check whether it is covered by this recall. Dealers will inspect the windshield seal. If a leak is found, the seal will be repaired, and vehicle control units and wiring will be replaced as needed. The repair is free of charge at an authorized BMW dealer. BMW mailed owner notification letters on December 3, 2025. You can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
