IC Bus Cesb Recall 25V522: Parking brake may fail, allowing bus to roll away

NHTSA campaign 25V522, reported August 12, 2025, 3,230 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A tension spring in the parking brake system of certain IC Bus school buses may corrode and break, which can disengage the parking brake. The notice describes the defect as a parking brake that may not engage as expected when the driver releases the service brakes.

If the parking brake does not hold as expected, the vehicle may roll away while parked or stopped, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners of affected 2024 through 2026 IC Bus CESB and 2025 EVSB buses should take this seriously.

The remedy is free. Authorized International dealers will replace the parking brake cable and adjust the parking brake at no charge. Owners were mailed notification letters on October 6, 2025, and may also contact International customer service at 1-800-448-7825, referencing recall number 25511. You can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your bus is affected.
