Mack Granite GR (4) Recall 25V495: Brake Drum Mismatch May Reduce Braking, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 25V495, reported July 29, 2025, 36 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2026 Mack GR trucks have a steer axle brake drum that is incompatible with the steer axle assembly it is paired with. This mismatch may cause a loss of brake function, meaning the vehicle does not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

Reduced brake function can lengthen the distance needed to stop the truck, which increases the risk of a crash. Drivers of affected trucks should take this seriously, especially when hauling loads or driving in traffic.

Dealers will replace the steer axle brake drums free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 27, 2025. If you have questions, contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
